Mickey Looney Team Spirit Scholarship award

Unable to participate in sports due to a congenital heart condition, Mickey participated in the games from the sidelines. He served as student manager of varsity squad athletics during his seventh and eighth grade years. Mickey passed
away on May 18, 1963 just two months prior to his 14th birthday. Mickey represented the heart and soul of our teams
and Ralston as a community. He was an honest, enthusiastic, and conscientious part of everything associated with
what it means to be a devoted team member. Mickey was a giver of his best to help others be at their best. His high
energy presence was infectious. He left a lasting mark on all who knew him. His parents and loving brother, Ralph,
extended Mick's memories for all to feel his goodness knowing so many were touched positively by him.
Mickey Looney overcame life challenges to help others excel. He embodied so many wonderful, positive traits. In
many ways he represented the goodness of what it meant to grow up in Ralston. This scholarship is awarded to one
graduating senior who most exemplifies Mickey’s character in their academic studies and co-curricular activities, such
as sports, music, school clubs, or school projects, especially his strong and enduring commitment to helping others
succeed at RHS.
