Hailing from Istanbul, Turkey, Dr. Yenen's journey commenced as a prodigious violinist, but it was his teenage fascination with the mysteries of science that steered his path. Renowned for his dedication and passion, he became synonymous with courses like PHYS 141-142, where he guided students through challenging coursework with unwavering commitment. His innovative demonstrations of physics principles not only captivated audiences but also instilled a lifelong love for learning in his students. Recognized by the University of Nebraska Parents Association for his outstanding contributions to education, Dr. Yenen's impact extended beyond academia. Inspired by a friend's advocacy, he established scholarships for promising Ralston High School students, ensuring his legacy of fostering scientific curiosity endures for generations to come. Dr. Orhan A. Yenen passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and academic excellence that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of learning from him.
Description of scholarship: This scholarship, valued at a minimum of $1,000, will be awarded to graduating seniors from Ralston High School who plan to study science, preferably physics, at an accredited four-year university. Applicants must be enrolled in advanced science courses, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and intend to pursue a future in science. Required materials include one letter of recommendation from a teacher and a 1-2 page essay discussing why they are interested in pursuing a career in science.
