Case Statement
The arts
enhance individual lives.
Whether we are writing a poem or reading one, painting a still
life or admiring one, dancing in an ensemble or experiencing a
performance, composing a song or listening to one, we are
exposed to a world beyond the everyday, and if we are open to
it, we can experience the intensity of creation. The arts are
about emotion as well as intellect, and about feeling as well as
knowing, and they can lead us to a fuller sense of being.
The arts build community.
They can give each community its collective identity through
myriad voices. They can bring people together to appreciate and
embrace our differences as well as to celebrate our common
humanity. Arts organization can contribute both to an economic
infrastructure and a human fabric that add vitality and hope for
the future.
Neither can happen unless people have
opportunities to experience the arts—alone and with others, over
time, and in some depth.
The Ralston High School Performing Arts Center
will provide the opportunity for diverse groups to experience
the arts in a way that opens new worlds and brings understanding
of everyoneÂ’s unique role in our community.
The arts
build a better future for students.
Whether itÂ’s a Miss Nebraska, a highly successful professional
in theater, a teacher, a symphony performer, or a salesperson
more confident about making a presentation, the arts make us all
better prepared to take on the world. At a critical time in
development, students in the Ralston District can turn to the
fine arts to assist them in developing self- confidence and
talents to help them achieve any goals they may have. A
facility that can attract, house and train those students as
well as provide a community venue for special events is an
intelligent, cost-effective project.
As a
community resource this facility has many attractive features.
If history is to indicate anything, the theater/auditorium will
be the hub of diverse Ralston community activities. The Ralston
Community Theatre is in residence from May 20th to
July 20th. A two-week youth theater camp is held in
July. Local Boy Scout Troops use the theatre for Eagle Scout
ceremonies. Churches have even used it as a temporary meeting
place during their construction closings. Local businesses use
it for mass employee meetings. It could host community concerts,
special shows and seminars, and a variety of other community
needs. The RHS Theatre stands as a
unique facility often providing the only venue in the community
for events and gatherings. The new facility should serve as a
showcase for the area as such events attract thousands of
attendees.
With the
renovation of the auditorium this facility holds the promise of
being a first class venue of which Ralston can be deeply proud.
It holds the potential to host not only audiences that can be
enriched by what is presented, but also participants who can
gain experiences that direct and enhance their lives.
Please join us in keeping this promise to
students and citizens. Together we can ensure a center for fine
arts to flourish in our community.
